Philip is President at 33 Capital Management, overseeing the firm’s non-investment functions.

Background

He began his career in 1997 at DB Absolute Return Strategies in New York as a founding member of a Bankers Trust legacy hedge fund business that scaled to over $10 billion in assets. He co-launched Germany’s largest hedge fund vehicle, raising €1.8 billion in four weeks, was promoted to Managing Director at age 29, and eventually became Co-Head of Europe & Middle East.

Subsequently Philip held senior leadership positions at Citigroup Alternative Investments as Managing Director and Global Head of Institutional Sales & Marketing across CAI’s $65bn platform, and at The Blackstone Group developing in-house hedge fund strategies and LP coverage coordination. In late 2009 he joined Paloma Partners as Partner and Head of Investor Relations, growing assets from $1.4 billion to $5 billion. As Global Head of Distribution at Insight Investment (2013), he was responsible for a 300 strong team and doubled assets from £300 billion to £600 billion as well as leading the $22 billion Cutwater Asset Management acquisition in the US.

Most recently, Philip was CEO of the Americas at Ninety One (2017-2024) with responsibility across the investment team, operations and client group, raising over $40 billion and establishing strategic partnerships with Vanguard and Resolute.

Education

Philip holds an MS in Finance and Economics from Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, Germany, and competed on Pepperdine University’s NCAA Division I tennis team.
